Valentin Vodev's Innovative Design for a Sustainable, Compact, and Lightweight E-Cargo Bike

With a vision to revolutionize the bicycle industry, Vodev has created one of the lightest longtail e-cargo bikes on the market. The VELLO SUB is designed to make everyday tasks easier, with a powerful electric motor and large battery capacity. It is lightweight and can be lifted effortlessly, and its equipment can be adjusted without tools, making it multifunctional for daily tasks such as transporting children or shopping.

The design of the VELLO SUB is rooted in the idea of creating sustainable forms of mobility for the city. Vodev, an industrial designer and founder of VELLO, developed the bike with the aim of positioning VELLO as a driving force behind the megatrend between connectivity and micromobility. The bike is made from recyclable and environmentally friendly materials, emphasizing the ease of repair and reusability of its components.

The VELLO SUB is not just a bike, it's a smart utility vehicle. Despite its compact size, it is as powerful as much larger and heavier cargo bikes, offering space for up to two people as well as a front carrier. It can easily transport heavy loads, with a permissible total weight of 210kg. The bike can be easily adjusted to fit anyone between 150 cm and 200 cm, making it a versatile option for urban mobility.

The design process of the VELLO SUB was based on the Integrated Design Engineering approach, with prototype development divided into several phases. The target group analysis focused on the life behavior of the users, resulting in a bike that is an alternative to the SUV. The SUB is available in two models, one with a chromoly frame and stepless gears from Enviolo, and an ultralight titanium frame model that weighs only 24 kg in the singlespeed version, making it the lightest cargo bike in the world.

The VELLO SUB is a testament to Vodev's commitment to innovative and sustainable design.
